Hawaii Part 5

Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor

Is located on Historic Ford Island, two hangars and the Ford Island Control Tower that still bear the scars of the US nation's aviation battlefield.

I found this a great place to visit, just being on the airfield which was attacked was an eerie feeling.

Combined a visit to The Arizona Memorial, USS Missouri and USS Bowfin with a visit to this very interesting collection of aircraft. First stop was the excellent cafe, followed by the main display hall featuring the Dauntless, Zero, Mitchell etc. - all well lit and, generally, imaginatively displayed.
A short walk, to the second, larger display hanger - featured here are mostly more modern aircraft, F-111, F-15, F-100, as well as a variety of helicopters, such as the Sea King, Sea Hawk and Sea Stallion. There are also aircraft under restoration, one of the highlights must be the B-17 recovered from a swamp in New Guinea. There is an outdoor area too, with further aircraft available to view - an F-14 Tomcat, F-4 Phantom, Sabre, Delta Dagger etc - some have clearly been repainted recently, whilst others await restoration. Overall, a very interesting visit, with friendly staff.

Hawaii Part 4

USS  Missouri

The Missouri may not be quite as ship shape as she was in active service, but the beauty and power of this vessel can not be denied. Her history is powerful, and radiates from every teak board and steel plate. A must visit, if just once in your life.

Her 16 inch  forward turrets watching over the Arizona brings a WOW moment when you are up near the bridge looking down at the memorial,
the share size of this ship must of put the shivers into the Kamikaze pilot in 1945
